Lora Kirby

My name is Lora Kirby and I am a 51 year old women living in Los Angeles. I am the mother of two beautiful young women in their twenties who are my heart and my soul and we are extremely close even though they moved away for the first time last year. Instead of feeling that empty-nest syndrome that many mothers feel, I have chosen to use that emptiness and a longing in my soul for my daughters and for my beautiful guardian angel “Lily” to help other women with my story.

After speaking openly for the first time in January 2020 about a past decision of having abortion over 30 years ago, I have gained the confidence I needed in myself and the desire to continue speaking out. I am passionate about using my past traumatic experience and healing/empowerment journey to help women learn to love themselves again. Although I feel a deep connection to post-abortive women, my message speaks to any woman who suffers from lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem. I believe these are emotions that are deeply connected to things that we may experience in life such as being in a toxic relationship or choosing to have an abortion. I truly believe that by helping women (and men) get to the root of their issues, they might not find themselves in these situations. I want to provide hope to women that don’t feel like they have a voice because they’ve already made a choice to have an abortion. These women need our love and our support more than ever and there are also some men who suffer as well. Instead of focusing on the divide that the “pro-life” / “pro-choice” debate creates, my side is called “pro-love”. I also want to provide hope to women who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy and they do not know where to turn for help or guidance. My message this past year has been “Love is Loving Yourself” and I truly believe this is a message that we all need to learn in order to move past emotions that we all carry around such an anger, resentment, regret, guilt, shame or just feeling a lack of self-worth. Sometimes we don’t even know where these feelings come from and they’re just there, so it’s about figuring out where they come from. Sometimes they come from how you grew up, a sexual experience or rape, adoption, a history of domestic abuse within your family and many more. The truth is more people have more trauma in their life they’re willing to speak up about and they carry that secret around in shame. My new message this year is that “Love Overcomes Vast Emptiness” because I truly feel that once we realize we’re not alone in our suffering we can all help each other heal one by one. We have to stop all the divide whether it’s about abortion, politics, race or religion and connect with others starting today. We can do this by first having compassion and love for ourselves so that we can give to others in a healthy loving way.
